Last summer was one of the worst in history for forest fires around Winthrop. Hope there will not be a repeat this year and not sure how the fires have affected hiking areas- lots of burned trees etc - you might check into that before going.

..."trees" were never going to be a major factor to my "Tiffany Mountain" suggestion, as most of the hiking area is wide open and 'exposed'. I also kept a distant awareness of the fires and never saw them approach the area of "Tiffany Mountain". (FYI to the OP)

I'll repeat my suggestion for the Chewuch Inn for Winthrop. We really liked it.

Since you now have only six days, I think taking a whale watching trip on the Victoria Clipper from downtown Seattle might be the most efficient way to get on the water and see whales without having to do more driving. And since you are spending the first part of the honeymoon in the mountains, why not spend some of the last part on the water, which is this area's other natural asset.

They offer a day trip (roundtrip from downtown Seattle) and an overnight to Friday Harbor in the San Juans.
