The best forum I'be found for cruise info is www.cruisecritic.com. We've gotten good prices from various agencies by requesting bids at www.cruisecompete.com.

We prefer a cabin as low and midships as possible because my husband is prone to motion sickness, and that's the most stable location.

I wouldn't wear jeans to dinner on a Princess ship.

Loved my balcony--worth the extra money.

People dress for dinner in the dining rooms--some nights are just more formal than other nights.

I didn't mind being up high but I don't have motion sickness problems.

Definitely go visit cruisecritic.com

If this cruise goes all the way to Anchorage (Whittier) get a room on the land side--I don't know which direction you are going.

That seems like a decent rate for a balcony cabin. The Golden is a nice ship; hopefully the construction that wasn't quite complete on my recent cruise on her will be finished by the time you go.

(Nice) jeans and a sweater would be ok for everything except the formal nights, or you could always go to the buffet.

Agree with the suggestions to have a look at Cruise Critic.

Is that price for a 7-day cruise? I don't know where you've looked for prices, but for the cruise we just completed last week, the best price we found was with Costco Travel. We've also used www.cruisesonly.com for a couple cruises. There are many, many places to shop online. Ironically, once in a while I've found a better price on Princess' website than the supposed "bargain" sites.

I wouldn't wear jeans to the diningroom, but other pants are perfectly acceptable with a nice sweater/blouse/top. You might get more answers if you post your question in the Cruises section here.

We were on the smaller Princess ship last summer, got an upper level cabin with balcony for $1300 via cruisecompete. Great service from the travel agent, couldn't have been a nicer experience. We started in Vancouver, had a cabin on the right (land) side and I'm SO glad we did. The balcony made a big difference, fantastic views and kept the cabin from feeling clautrophobic. Great trip.

WOW! $1300 sounds really great! was it a last minute deal? when you say "land side", was it a one-way (northbound) trip?

I would feel really out of place wearing jeans to the dining room. I took mix and match black & white pieces & got along OK.

I would recommend www.cruise.com they are the only web company that did not charge hidden fees. Also, they appear to have prices well below the other sites. I havent figured out how they do that. I used them twice and in both cases I was very satisfied with the service and the prices.

You are really fortunate to get such an amazing price. Take it for sure, you won't see a better deal.

I recommend a mid-ship room; the deck doesn't particularly matter; Alaska is smooth anyway.

And finally, sweater and jeans is definitely not okay at dinner. They'll turn you away.

Bodijak, sorry for the delayed response. Our $1300 deal was not last minute, we booked months in advance. Because I had a convention to attend in Anchorage, we had to have a week either before or after a specific date, so we even had to be picky about which time. Just post the ship you want and the date on cruisecompete.com and see what you get. I took the lowest 3 and let them know what my lowest price was, and each of them dropped a little more. And we didn't sacrifice service, the agent was great in helping us pick our cabin.
