7 Days Kauai / Hanelei Bay and Where Else?
Hi everyone!!!
I'll be spending 5 nights in at the Hanelei Bay Resort on Hanelei Bay. I would like to get suggestions on what other part of the island to stay for an additional 2 nights. I will have a car, and would like to see the sights that the island has to offer. Any ideas and hotel recommendations? Has anyone stayed at the Hanelei Bay Resort? Any comments?
Thanks in advance.
Ross.

if you do a search on this site, you will see that the hotel has NOTgotten good reviews any more. I stayed there in 10/00 for 2 nts., and found the accomodations unsatisfactory. It is a misnomer to call the hotel a resort- a timeshare condo with some hotel rms is a better discription. There is virtually no piblic spaces, with 1 very asic restuarant and 1 bar. There is virtually no lobby. The pool is nice, but there is no poolside service.
If you are in a hotel rm, I would change hotels ASAP. The rms are in awful conditional, more in line with a 1 star roadsidemotel, with peelaing wallpaper, old furniture and such. Repports that the suite accomodations are in better condition. I would be VERY CAUTIOUS with this hotel, especialy if you are apying more than $99-$120/nt. IMHO, the rms are worh only about $90/nt, and only becasue it is in Princeville. My rm was worst than a Motel 6.
I would flip my stay, and stay 5 nts in Poipu area at the Hyatt Kauai and 2 nts in the north shore.

Ross, I agree with Anthony. We stopped in this place last week to grab a couple soda's from the general store. It was closed until further notice. The grounds were not very well kept. I ended up getting some thing from the bar and he looked as if I was the first customer of the day. Look for other choices. You may not need to go all the way down to Poipu, the Kapa'a and Wailua areas may provide you with clean and less expensive accomodations.

Last time in Kauai I spent 5 days on the north shore and 2 days at Waimea Plantation Cottages on the west shore. I stayed there in order to access Kokee, Waimea Canyon, Polihale and the other west shore sites, and to experience a different part of Kauai. The cottages were nice and the restaurant on site, the Waimea Brew Pub, had good food and beer, and offered entertainment in the evenings.
I was pleased with having made this choice and it helped me see the whole island without having to drive as much.
