6 hour layover in Charlotte

Hi, I have a 6 hour layover in Charlotte, NC and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on something I can do?? I've never been to Charlotte, and I really do not want to spend 6 hours staring out at airplanes. Thanks.

I used to live in Charlotte. The saying is that it's a great place to live but not to visit, and that's pretty true. There's just not that much to do there, touristwise. It also depends on what day and time you'll be there, because it is one of those downtowns that pretty much folds up at 6 pm most weeknights and all day on weekends. There is an IMAX theatre at Discovery Place (which is a very good hands-on Children's museum) downtown, and I suppose you could take a cab from the airport into downtown and walk around a bit and have a decent meal at Bistro 100 on Trade and Tryon, or if it's lunchtime try the Pine Room which is also nearby.
There is the Mint Museum of Art, which quite frankly is not terribly impressive (and I love museums), but that is outside the main downtown area. I wish I had some better suggestions for you.
The upside is that Charlotte's airport is (in my opinion) very nice and a pretty comfortable place to pass some time. It has a huge row of rocking chairs in the main area between concourses. There are a few decent shops and restaurants (not as nice as Pittsburgh's airport though). If it were me I guess I might try to take a cab to a theatre and catch a movie to pass a couple of hours, but that's about it.
