It took us, just over 5 1/2 hrs. (with two short pit stops) from SLC airport to Jackson. Quite a tiring ride in the afternoon. Then almost an hour to where we were staying in Grand Teton which is south of Yellowstone.

In Jackson if you have time - do eat at Sweetwaters - the food is excellent. We always eat dinner or lunch there when we visit Jackson.
Also we spent a day only at the South Rim at the GC and since we don't hike found that to be plenty of time for all we wanted to see and to take plenty of pictures.
you have a wonderful trip planned!

If you really want to make an important change to your itinerary I would take two days less in W.Yellowstone and use them to visit Zion and Bryce canyon on your way to Jackson. You wont regret it. Greetings from Belgium.Paul

I believe you and your family would have a more enjoyable time if you visit Montana and Wyoming OR Arizona and Utah.

Even with the heat, I would go for Arizona and Utah. You could visit Zion, Bryce, and Sedona, and you could cool off in Mesa Verde, Durango, and even Telliride (a place I have longed to visit).
