5 Hours To Burn At JFK

I am leaving for Europe next week, and on my way there, I have to spend 5 hours at JFK airport. I have no desire to go into the city. Is there anything (either at the airport or nearby) to do, besides eat, drink, and shop? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Afraid the best idea is to bring a good book. Of course you are ASSUMING you'll get to JFK with 5 hours to burn...

I'm not really a New Yorker, so maybe a local can help...but isn't Coney Island near JFK? Couldn't one get a cab there, look around, and get a cab back in far less than five hours?

I would say go to the town of Lawrence. It has nice main street, you could get something to eat and do a little shopping. It's about 10 minutes by cab from the airport.

Rich,

Not to discourage you but 2 weeks ago I took my brother to JFK for a flight and it took me 3 hours in very heavy traffic to get back to the George Washington Bridge. This is the first time it took so long, but the trouble was construction and it didn't look like it would be over soon.

Many thanks to all.

Basically, I haven't heard any encouraging news regarding the facilities at JFK. You'd think that for such a large and heavily-used airport, they'd have some interesting things to do.

Debra: Lawrence sounds like a possibility. Thanks.

Any other suggestions? Thanks!!
