Sfcityguides.org

Supported by the city and library, they give dozens of different walking tours that span wide range of interest and sites.

They are donation only but do give at LEAST $5 + per person.

If nothing else, look at the walks offered to get some ideas of what interests you...hard to make suggestions when we know nothing about YOU.

If/when you are in the area of Coit Tower/North Beach, look for the interesting Filbert Steps (Google for photos). Pretty gardens lush with flowers, charming cottages that can only be reached from the stairs, and a flock of wild parrots (about which there is a documentary film)....you'd never think you were close to the bustling city.

Don't be afraid to do the "touristy" stuff... ride a street car, go to Fisherman's Wharf, etc.

Highlight of our recent trip to SF was renting bikes for the day, riding across the bridge to Sausalito and taking the ferry back.

We stayed right near the Ferry Building and lived the location.

Get a 3 muni pass and ride the historic cable cars, trolleys. Get reservations for Alcatraz NOW. These tours sell out quickly. Agree about the free library tours as they are fantastic. We did a tour that included Coit Tower and the Filbert Street Steps. We even got a fly by put on by the Parrots of Telegraph Hill!

Agree. We need to know more about your interests.

I think Alcatraz is a must, and tickets do sell out, so plan that ahead.

I second J62. My buddy and I did the bike ride over the bridge and Sausalito and it was the perfect. There are some small hills along the trail so be ready to break a small sweat.
