4 - 7 day driving trips starting and ending in Atlanta Georgia
I am resubmitting this message from very late last night - it turned into message 84 and was buried pretty quickly.
Any thoughts about places to go, routes to travel? (Starting and ending in Atlanta - one trip 4 days, one may be 7 days)
Suggestions already given have included Asheville, the Biltmore Mansion, Savannah, mountains of NC, Huntsville, - space museum, Jack Daniels Distillery, Charleston.
Sounds like a pretty full plate! Any other thoughts or ideas.
Thank you very much!
Pat

You are got many geat suggestions. Can't figure out what is this post about. Do you want to cover more places in four days?
Charleston is only four hours away from Asheville

Any suggestions for interesting and fun excursions - driving from Atlanta, GA and returning in about 4 days?
Has anyone ever visited the furniture manufacturing areas in North or South Carolina - and/or the Biltmore Estate?
We will have time for two separate excursions - both about 4 days - and both starting and ending in Atlanta.
Thank you!

As far as High Point/Hickory/Greensboro for furniture manufacturing areas, there really isn't anything to see unless you are there at market.
Biltmore and Asheville are great.
Charleston would be another good trip.
What about Savannah?

From Atlanta, the space museum in Huntsville is a pretty easy drive. From there it's only a short distance to the Jack Daniels distillery. A visit to Lookout Mountain and the surrounding area might round out a nice trip.

Thank you for great ideas! Yes, Savannah is on our list.
Thank you for knowing about the furniture places, too. Darn! - but sooo much better to know now than to waste a trip!!
This is my first time doing web communication like this. How great!
- searched a looong time before I found a word for my name that worked!

Drive north on I-75 to Chattanooga. See Look Out Mountain, the Aquarium, Rock City, Ruby Falls, and on the back side of Look Out Mtn: sit on the ledge and watch the hang gliders jump off. When the wind is good, there's a crowd. From there, drive towards Knoxville, go to Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg. Drive the Blue Ridge Parkway. See Grandfather Mountain. From there, it's about 4 1/2 hours back to Atlanta.

Hi plaid, just so you know for the future...if you just do nothing more then post ttt (means topping to the top) your thread will automatically go to the #1 spot on this board. A lot easier then resubmitting your message.
Best wishes on your decision, sounds like you will have a wonderful time no matter what you decide.

Plaid, you are very welcome. When I first joined Fodor's I was so confused! Fodor's does not give any instructions, directions I am sorry to say. But good and kind Fodorites helped me and answered all my questions, which I so appreciated.
BTW, I was in Atlanta for the first time ever in April. OWJ (another Fodorite) and her husband invited me. I loved Atlanta. OWJ and I took a three day trip and went to Charleston. What a fantastic trip (it was fun even when we got lost, tripped all over the sidewalks in Charleston and was so busy talking on the way back to Atlanta almost ended up in North Carolina), LOL. I know you will have a wonderful time...I sure did!
