£350 to spend on accomodation in UK

Hi,
We're a family with 2 boys (7 & 9).We want to spend a week or 10 days in the UK in July or August. We're on a tight budget...and would like some ideas on where to go.£350 is the total we have to spend on accomodation,by the way. Then we're thinking that another £350 would pay for our food and outings.I was going to cook a few dinners to take out with us.I guess that would mean a self catering place, unless you know of a half board place which is cheaper? What do we like to do? Well, seafood,a nice beach,or just somewhere with great views and character.A good art gallery nearby, maybe the theatre one night if it's reasonably priced...We'd really appreciate some help, here.

Yes - this should be over on the Europe forum.

When you do re-post you need to think about your criteria a bit. Beaches and theatres are not necessarily exclusive - but most beach areas are not in cities where there are lots of theatres.

There are lots of places you can rent a nice 2 bdrm cottage in July for less than 350GBP - but not many at the seaside, and not any in places like London.

Do you plan on renting a car - that will be nearly as expensive as your cottage when you add in the cost of petrol, etc.

More off-the-beaten-path places like North Wales, the west Wales coast, central Scotland, Rutland, Northumberland, etc will have less expensive places to rent.

Hi,janisj,
I guess you're all awake in the US...lucky me..
We live in West Sussex ourselves, and do have days out in London sometimes, so we'd like to skip London. As for theatres, I guess I was thinking how in Scotland, we stayed about 20 minutes from Hellensburgh(I think that's how it was spelt), and happened to see that the local drama group was putting on the musical Oklahoma that evening.Well, tickets for the 4 of us cost£16 and the boys still talk about it!We love musicals but can't afford to go to the west end.

The North of England would be a good option, you could visit cities like Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle where there are excellent theatres and art galleries, there are also beaches nearby, either the North Wales coast with it's castles and beaches or further North to the stunning beaches and castles of Northumberland, or there is the Lake District with fantastic scenery and lots to do in the towns and villages. There are many reasonably priced guest houses or rental cottages in this area. The road links from the South are very straightforward. Have a great time!
