21st birthday in NYC: What to do?
We're taking our son to NYC for his 21st birthday. We have tickets for evening shows but are looking for daytime activities--and not the usual tourist spots, since we've done all the major museums and sights. He plays the sax and loves music, so the Virgin Megastore at Times Square is on his list. I thought about the Sony Technology Center, but it seems aimed at younger kids. Any ideas?

Here's a link to another board regarding a NYC excursion:

Also, there are some GREAT music stores (selling equipment, NOT records) off of B'way, near ~48th St or so.

Check out www.timeout.com for New York and www.nycitysearch.com. That could be a big help, in that he can look for things that specifically appeal to him.

Forget about Sony Wonder-definitely for kids (and the adults accompanying them)
Music clubs (jazz, etc) have late shows, so if you're up to it, you can go after the theater.
Timeout NY online (www.timeoutny.com)
and the print version of the magazine definitely have a younger slant on things to do in NYC than other guides. Depending on when you're coming (Soon?)the type of music, you/he like, you can go to free/low priced concerts all over NYC, both at lunchtime (lots of concerts at the World Trade Center Plaza) and evenings from 6pm on (Battery Park, South Street Seaport, Lincoln Center, Central Park, Guggenheim Museum, Museum oF Natural History too). TimeoutNY and Citysearch
(newyork.citysearch.com) are the places I look for details, but you canm use www.newyorkmag.com for New York Magazines listings, and www.nytoday.com
for the netrtainment/tourist listings from the New York Times.
If you give us more details, I'm sure you'll get even more specific info.
For examples: Other museum interests?
NYC has a Museum of TV and radio (52nd st?) a great museum of movies (Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens, but easy to get to by subway, etc, etc, etc.
