2 free plane tickets. 1 new baby. Where to go??

We received two free United tickets through a promotion for travel in the US through Dec 2004. We are expecting our first child to arrive in March and won't plan something until the Fall probably (until I get the Mom thing down, nevermind traveling with an infant!). So, where should we go next Fall in the US with a ~ 6 mo. old? We live in Boston and love exploring the outdoors (but don't want something too rustic with the baby). Any ideas? Thoughts on Portland, Sedona, Lake Tahoe? A national park?? Thanks for your ideas.

you wont like my answer.
Have a trusted caregiver watch the infant and you and your husband go and have fun.

Not a bad option at all. I'm open to that. Not sure how I'll feel when the time comes, but we plan on taking adult only vacations. So, where to go with or without baby??

I'd try New Mexico, for a nice change of scenery. If you go in the fall, you might want to check out the balloon fiesta in Albuquerque and then head up to Santa Fe. You could take the baby, or not - either option would work.

Lake Tahoe is beautiful in September. I'd fly into one city and out of another, drive between the two. Like into San Fran or Portland for a couple of nights, then drive to Tahoe for a few nights and fly out of there (Reno airport).

If you're nursing, you'll want to take the baby. Babies of that age are pretty portable, anyway. It's the 2 year olds who are hard to have along on a trip. I especially enjoyed traveling with my children from ages 3 months to about 18 months.

I agree with the New Mexico idea. You'll have a lot of options for sightseeing, hiking, just hanging out, etc. Also, it won't be too hot or cold at that time of year. Because of the Mexican and Navajo cultures there, I think a child would be appreciated more than at some other tourist destinations. Make sure you catch some fall colors in NM or SW Colorado.

I agree traveling with a 6 mo. old isn't so bad if they are normally happy. They usually love to be out and about in the fresh air, in a stroller or a carrier. Yosemite in September would be fun.
