I will be staying in Portland for two nights in mid-March. Any suggestion for a day trip driving along the coast area? And how's the weather over there? Thanks in advance.

Go to Ecola State Park near Cannon Beach. Cannon Beach is just incredible! Quaint town with gorgeous ocean views!

March weather is a crap shoot. It's rainy and cold today, but last weekend was lovely (sunny, 61 degrees in Portland). The beach is very likely to be windy and rainy at this time of year, however. Drive to Cannon Beach and head south on 101 through Oswald West State Park for gorgeous views of the coast.
