1st anniversary in New England?
My husband and I will be celebrating our 1st anniversary in late November, and we're thinking about a long weekend getaway to New England (from NJ).
Can anyone suggest places to visit, things to do, places to stay? I'd love a cozy B&B in a town with some antiques, shops, activities, etc.

Drive up Hiway 100 in Vermont (watching the weather, of course -- you don't want to get caught in a blizzard!). Just about every town will be exactly what you want. Unless you're traveling on Thanksgiving weekend, you should have little trouble finding a place to stay. Still, buy a book describing B&B's, find one that exactly meets your needs, and make reservations. If your time in New England goes as romantically as ours did, you may be celebrating your 50th anniversary there as well! :^)

Mystic or Newport are good choices for a weekend. Both offer lots of choices for recreation or for relaxation, antique shops, tours, etc. If you were very ambitious you could stay at one and visit the other. They are only about 45 minutes apart by car.

During that time of year, the most beautiful and romantic place I have ever seen in my life is Kingfield, Maine, near Sugarloaf Mountain. It is like a story book picture of a small Hamlet. It has the antique shops, great restaurants and if you plan to go skiing Sugarloaf is great. The people are very friendly and helpful, especially to tourists, and its relatively inexpensive. We stayed at the Inn on Winters Hill, but there are several other B&B's that may suit your tastes better.
