$10-$15 meals in Wailea, possible?

Hi Maui-Experts!

With all the expensive entertainment and food options scheduled, I need some suggestions for moderately priced places to eat in Wailea. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Every lunch menu I saw while in Wailea last week were in the $20- $30 dollar range. We ate at the Tommy Bahama cafe and I believe the meals were 16-20 bucks. It was quite good though. Better than Longhi's.

There are strip malls. I'm sorry I don't remember the names of places. Only where they are and that I like them. There is one outdoor setting place that has great breakfast. Then there are places like Subway etc. Then local hole in the walls. My husband used to work over there during the week. I gave him a cheap budget - LOL! I know the guys had a favorite dig that looked a bit shady. I'll ask him.

Let me share with you how we keep our meal budget down. We make a trip to the nearest grocery store and purchase bagels, banana's and peanut butter. It makes for a breakfast in your hotel room that stays with you and really can last all day until dinner. We usually take back packs for our day trips and you can put apples, etc. inside. We have on many occasions, during our dinner meal, asked our wait staff to add to our bill 4 hard boiled eggs and to put them in a to-go bag. This serves for the next day breadfast or lunch. We enjoy being creative with our budget! The more we save, the more we can travel!

We stay in Wailea about 10 days a month on business. I always go to the Kihei Safeway and get bananas, bagels, juice for breakfast. We usually have a great view at the MArriott so we eat on the balcony. Sometimes I stop by the Safeway deli and oreder up a huge sandwich and we eat it by the beach. On Tuesday I spent $24 at Safeway for breakfast fixings for 3 days plus a huge sandwich---4 meals for two people!

We have tried many of the hole in the wall restaurants! Alexanders Fish and Chips is great, however the ambiance is not! This week we ate at a Thai place in Azeaka Marketplace, bill was $30 for two. All of the strip malls have interesting restaurants, we like to get the food to go and eat at the beach.

Here's exactly what you want---at the Mana Kai Condo/Resort(on the Wailea-Keihei border), they have a wonderful outdoor/indoor restaurant that is one of our favorites anywhere. They have 1/2 price appetizers every afternoon and their prices are reasonable anyway. The big plus is the location--its on one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Hawaii and the view is to die for. Good Luck !!

Sea Watch is a moderately-priced restaurant at the Wailea Golf Course. I'm not sure if it's under $15, but definitely less than most in the area! I agree with the grocery-store idea. And there's always fast-food in Kihei if you are just trying to save some $$ to spend on a great dinner!
