1 night in Vegas with kids.

Where is a fun campy place (under $125nt)to stay with kids (ages13 and 8)?. We only have one full day, don't gamble much, but would like the kids to see some of the family highlights. Is it worth the price to stay in a large theme hotel, or better to stay moderate and walk to attractions?. Family on budget.

Absolutely the best for your kids would be "Circus Circus". Here's the website address:

Circus Circus was designed with kids in mind...however...IMO it has seen better days..has been a few years since we stayed on that end of strip, so things might have changed however. But at the time a little run down. Plus its on the far end of the strip, away from the other neat hotels. You might want to look into the MGM, luxor, NY NY..or Excaliber..all pretty close to the 125 a night and very kid friendly. Excaliber probably being the most kid friendly of those I mentioned.
Our kids had a blast when we stayed there..That was before NY NY openned right across the street with the roller coaster, and MGM on the other corner with its theme park.. so lots to choose from now on that end of strip..

So comments on the previous posts.
I travel frequently to LV, having been there most recently on Presidents Weekend and christmas time before that. I try to stay at a variety of hotels, new/old, and basically look for the best deal.
The advice given by the 2 previous posters is pretty on the money; just want to say that ' Cirecus Circus' is actually in better shape inside than the outside would suggest. ( Outside, it looks like an old, 50's-60's hotel, inside, they have kept up the renovations, so it's in suprisingly good shape, considering all the traffic. Spent some time there last month for the 1st time, and was plesantly surprised). CC has TONS of stuff for kids; the arcade/carnival games section of the casino is loads of fun, I actually enjoyed playing some of the games - a nice diversion from the casino. Also, there is an indoor theme park with minature versions of themepark rides - water flume, roller coaster, etc)
Having said that, I would agree with Steve that if you are only going to be there 1 nt, half of the fun of visiting Vegas is seeing all the AMAMZING casinos - the buildings themselves are the attractions. MUST SEES would include Luxor, NY,NY, Paris.
In terms of free family attractions, The Pirate show at TreasureIsland, the volcano at Mirage, the fountain show outside Bellagio, the talking statutes at the Forum Shops at Ceasears. YOu won't have time to do everything, maybe aske the kids what they would like best. For sure, if they are Star Trek fans, you MUST make a trip to the Star Trek ride/attraction at the LV Hilton.
The Strip, where most hotels are located, is deceptively long; to walk from casino to casino is too tiring, considering you need to save energy
to walk around INSIDE each casino!
Consider taking taxis; a little more money than the trolleys, but you're less at the mercy of the trolley schedule.
My suggestion would be to 1st try either Excaliber, Luxor ,or NY,NY; all three have child-centered attractions inside the casinos, and they are closer to the other casinos, so you can get to each of them easier. Circus Circus is only a 4th choice only because it is not as centrally located. You can't go wrong with any of the 4 hotels mentioned; I would go 1st with the best priced hotel of the 1st three, followed by Circus, Circus.

Can't comment specifically about the quality of accommodations of Circus Circus, but it is far away from all the other big theme places that you'd want to check out. Excalibur is on the other far end of the strip, but there are more cool sites closer to that (like the MGM grand theme park, NY NY rollercoaster, etc., and they usually have pretty good prices. You may want to check out Treasure Island; they have good specials sometimes and it's right in the center of everything.

I thought I heard MGM closed their theme park. True or not?
