Honeymoon in Late Oct./Beg. of Nov 2006

Can you believe we are having a tough time figuring out where we want to go on our honeymoon? I think seeing Italy sparks our interst because it seems romantic, wonderful sights, and wine/food. We are also looking for something warm and I think Italy can be iffy that time of year. Any ideas?--we are open ...
*Doesnt have to be super hot but would like to swim or wear a light jacket at most.
*We are both into food and wine, so that would be a plus.
*Being stuck at a resort doesnt apeal to us. One or two days would be OK but we would like day trip excursions.
*My fiance doesnt like water activities although he was open to a cruise.
*We are from NYC, so I do want to relax. Anything come to mind???

Italy seem slike an excellent choice, but it will be cooler at that time. Have you thought of Brazil? At this time of year it is spring & the weather should be wonderful - especially in Rio & the north - you could head to the beaches of Fernando de Noronha - they're amazing! And the food in the south of Brazil has a lot of European influence & the most delicious BBQ (churrasco) I have ever tasted in my entire life! It depends though on the length of your trip - for Brazil I think you need 2 weeks...

Well, have I got an idea for u! INDIA! And in october/November, just perfect!

India is certainly one of the most fascinating destinations ever, incredible food, forts/ palaces, adventure, romance, color, culture, beautiful diverse landscape, friendly people, great shopping, endless choices of where to go and surely can be a trip of lifetime!

I know it is not exactly the first destination that comes to mind when thinking honeymoons, but* it is certainly worthy of consideration, and slowly becomming a more popular travel/honeymooon destination too, as there are so many incredible romantic places to stay and of course, such a diversity of things to see, do, etc.

i wld say India can actually can make a ideal honeymoon destination combining a foray into the rich hisotry, folklore, and culture, and combining it with some more relaxing down time at one of the incredible spas or resorts in the South..

Or if u are more adventurours, there are Tiger Parks, Bird Sancturaires, Spice Plantations, houseboat trips thru backwaters, and Aruvedic Spas, etc, etc..And beautiuful places to stay everywhere! the choices are endless..

Actually, if u travel thru Rajathan, u can actually stay in former Palaces, such as Rajmahal Palace or jai mahal palce in Jaipur to name a few, and of course the ever so beautiuful lake Palace in udaipur.

In additon to the Palace Hotels in Rajashtan, there are the Incredible Oberoi Vila Properties, absolutely breathtaking, and u have them in jaipur, udaipur, Rathambore, Agra, etc..Staying in these properties wld make a superb honeymoon, fit for a King and Queen....They are breathtaking!

And of course, one of the most romantic honeymoon destiantins of all time! (the Taj mahal!) a monument built for love!

I have plenty of ideas about traveling/honeymooning in India, as i have helped many a friend and or fodorite craft up a trip as a American who lives in the region and wld be happy to suggest/help anyone so feel free to drop me a line..But some ideas that come to mind wld combine a week in the North traveling and exdploring as per ur interests and than a more relaxing week in the South, in one of the Southern more laid back States of India, like kerala and/or Goa. Both are filled with beautiful places to stay, lush scenery, great food, spas, etc, etc,. U can even glide down on a luxury houseboat thru the backwaters of lagoons and visit wildlife sancturary too. so many options.

Anyways, i have a thing or two to say on India as a great destination in general, and more specifically as a wonderful and unique honeymoon destinaton as i am a American woman who has been exploring the region for over 15 years and leading cultural tours in India for over a decade. I am a big Indian talker on the fodor~site and just happened to be passing by this Honeymoon thread, as i am actually in the mist of helping a few other Fodorites with their plotting and planning of their honeymoon trips in India and thought to drop the idea to others..feel free to drop me a line at [email protected] happy to help!

I think Italy would be perfect - I was there at that time last year (the 25th of Oct through the 5th of Nov) and weather was perfect!

It was warm enough to wear short sleeves and a skirt in Rome (quite warm, in fact - around 80) and a few days in Tuscany were rather warm too. Other days I wore a very light jean jacket or a thin cardigan sweater. One day it rained and was cool, but the rest were great. Not too chilly at all - maybe high 60s to low 70s most days. Venice was a bit cooler, but still only wore a thin jacket and took it off half-way through the day.

As for swimming...prob not on the radar unless you have an indoor hotel pool, and I don't imagine many have one in Italy. But if you go further south to Capri, Naples, Sorrento, etc. it may be warm enough to swim. When I was in Capri in late October it was warm enough to swim and people were at the beach although most were just sitting and enjoying the view or walking, not exactly sun-bathing.

Still, I think it fits all your criteria of food/wine/sights/romantic...where else but Italy to tour wineries and have fantastic food??

Cape Town! Stunning setting, unbelievable food at a great price, and fantastic wineries in a beautiful region. Combine it with a safari in one of the Mpumalanga lodges or elsewhere and you will have an amazing honeymoon. South Africans know hospitality and will go out of their way to make it special if they know it is your honeymoon.

Cape Town, the winelands, and the safari options are all very romantic.

Italy should be fine that time of year. Just take a sweater & jackets for the nights & cooler days. If you like to swim, make sure your hotel has a heated pool
