Travel Agency wants passport data when booking ticket to US

The newest in security measures for the USA. At the moment, all US carriers are requiring passport numbers when BOOKing tickets. This means, one must have a valid passport at the time of booking. This is a big pain in the rear for many who wanted to book 6 months ahead and then get their passport sometime before flying off.

This is for all folks flying into the USA.

not true with Qantas-you can book but your tickets will not be issued until you have completed the passport info.So you can still get a passport nearer the date.

So far, this is just a US carrier requirement.

Welcome to the USA - (the illusion of) security trumps everything else.

I just booked flights from Singapore to the US with United Airlines...they didn't ask for any passport info, just reminded me that the name on the ticket should read exactly as it appears on my passport.

I've had to provide passport info when booking with Singapore Air many times - no big deal, but then again, I already have one.
