Solo Travel to Southern Spain/Morocco
Hi all --
I'm contemplating traveling at slightly above the backpacking level to southern Spain (particularly Sevilla) and Morocco. Any and all hints are appreciated, particularly concerning places to stay in Morocco. I'm very flexible as to time of year and itinerary, but I'm slightly worried as I am a woman and will (obviously) be traveling alone. I've soloed in Europe, Australia and Mexico, but I do have some reservations about Morocco -- please give me the honest scoop! Thanks in advance!

I'm travelling to Morocco alone too. I asked some advice before making this decision and most people were positive about it! Of course you'll get remarks for men in the street, but my experience is that if you don't react, they leave you alone!
I was there 2 years ago with a friend... but I was walking around on my own without any problems! Only once I was really hassled, but not for long...There is a very big social control in Morocco and people immediately react if they see you're in trouble! On top of that, in cities like Marrakech for instance, there is also a 'Tourist Brigade' to protect the tourists...if some Moroccan guy is talking to you, it could easily happen that they come to ask you if you know him or if he's bothering you!
Anyway, when are you planning to go to Morocco!
I'll be there from 5 - 22 july...so, maybe we can meet somewhere if you're interested!

i have mixed feelings about traveling on one's own in morocco. there are parts that are a real pain in the neck to travel esp. when you do not know french or arabic. the big cities are fine with solo travelers and some of the isolated areas as well. the border towns i hear are kinda sketchy. but i would recommend going with someone else since the level of harassment is unbelievable (not from the men from the shopkeepers). you will get harassed no matter what. i personally opted not to go alone but went with an inexpensive tour group sans single supplement. southern spain is no problem in terms of backpacking.
