Has anyone ever heard of Club1 travel club? They seem to have a number of trips for solo travelers - many with single rooms without the supplement. They look established - just wondered if anyone has had any experience with this organization.

Any other recommendations?

Thank you, Suze, for the tip. I will look into it. It is a catchy name! I don't necessarily want to travel with a group, but I do think it wold be nice to know that there will be other "soloists" at the destination. I like visiting with locals & like my own company, but at times it would be nice to be at an evening affair without being the proverbial 5th wheel all of the time!

I travel solo and just do it independently, but that doesn't give as much social interaction as some people might desire (with a group).

I had not heard of club1travel until I read your post, but I was curious about it and found their website. While I appreciate their effort to organize solo trips and offer single rooms, I wondered if their prices were competitive (given that they offer members discounts and free trips). I picked one of their weekend getaways (to St. Pete Beach, Florida since this package only includes hotel, air, and ground transfers) making it relatively easy to compare, and I priced it on Expedia. I couldn't tell what room category the club1travel package included, and I wasn't able to add hotel transfers on Expedia, but the hotel and air package on Expedia for the same dates and hotel from one of the club1travel departure cities, including all taxes priced out between $490 and $610 (depending on room category), and it looks like roundtrip shuttle transportation from Tampa airport would be about $45 or so. So, bottom line, this club1travel trip seems to offer a healthy profit to the organizers, considering it is priced at $850 for non-members, or $765 for new members (which really would cost at least $60 more after you join and pay for at least one month of membership). Personally, I wouldn't pay that kind of premium for something I could research in less than 10 minutes, but I guess it depends on how important it is to have the social aspect of traveling with other solo travelers. Also, I did not look at any of club1travel's longer or more logistically complicated trips, so those might be better values.

I also would be interested in hearing about what you decide and your experiences.

O Solo Mio (catchy name indeed) isn't a "travel club" but a tour operator that sells packaged tours and cruises to single travelers who aren't looking for romance (their customers are overwhelmingly female, though not intentionally). They price their tours the industry standard "per person, double occupancy," but they pair up strangers to share accommodations. If you want your own room, the usual industry penalty apply. It would seem that O Solo Mio is best suited for women who enjoy traveling with a group of other women.
