If reporting that a hotel's wifi is slow and unreliable, when that is a true fact, or reporting that the water is never hot in the afternoon, when that is a true fact, etc. is bad mouthing, then I am all for bad mouthing.

The notion that is you can't say something nice you should say nothing applies to personal relations, not to commercial transactions. A review site with nothing but positive reviews is worthless.

<The notion that is (sic) you can't say something nice you should say nothing>

That is not the principle under which I was operating. It seemed to me that the OP was reluctant to damage the property owner's business, given that she did scramble to fix all the problems.

Even if the OP says "she fixed all the problems", most people will read that there were many significant problems and move on. The OP realizes this.

I think that it's important to consider the consequences of one's online reviews, beyond simply declaring that the truth is the truth. Whatever the OP decides to do, I admire her effort to be just in this matter.

Thank you. My point as well. And once posted it is damage that cannot be undone.

I'll go one step further to say I think it's crazy to expect everyone to run home and write reviews about every experience they have. Plenty of people travel without even using the internet, believe it or not.

Suze, I expressed a similar thought yesterday on the Lounge when someone asked me why I didn't want to post a review on the VRBO website. Here was my answer:

Marianna on Sep 15, 15 at 12:15pm
I don't want her to lose rental possibilities. I think I made it clear directly to her that things were not as she described. I guess I am hoping that she will make sure things are corrected in the future for other people who rent her villa.

Suze chose not to answer my question, but she apparently has not written a tripadvisor hotel review since January 2010.

<suze doesn't read reviews, doesn't use review sites, and doesn't really travel anywhere other than the Mexican equivalent of Fort Lauderdale. So I'm not sure why she's even a part of the conversation.>

<Especially when you have repeatedly said that you neither write nor read reviews on tripadvisor.>

<How many hotel reviews total? How many in the past 5 years?>

<apparently has not written a tripadvisor hotel review since January 2010.>

mlbg~ This is really getting out of hand. You need to get a grip on this weird obsession you have with me.

I haven't written recent hotel reviews on TA because I haven't stayed in a hotel the past 5 years, I've been renting apartments instead.

Marianna, Yes I am reading both of your threads with interest.

And I fully agree with the approach and appreciate:
<I don't want her to lose rental possibilities.>

My point of view is, I can see how much you could hurt this landlord and rental property with a review airing all the various problems you ran into. While you really have nothing to gain (since your visit is in the past, and they tried to make things right for you at the time).

So you aren't "active" in hotel reviews, are you?

Mariana, if you don't care about other future travelers, don't bother write a review. I'm assuming that you never rely on the reviews of others, right?

If Marianna really believes that this situation will not happen again, then I am OK with her not posting a review. But, does she realy believe that, and how would she feel if she read a review in a couple of months from someone who had the same experience?

Of course I do not write reviews about eveywhere! I write hotel reviews, a few restaurant reviews and even rarer attraction reviews. My TA count would be WAY up there otherwise. In general I review places that are particularly good, particularly bad, or have vey few other reviews. Or places where other reviewers are in disagreement. I see no point in adding a 501st review saying the same thing as the other 500. Being asked to write a review is likely to keep me from writing one, or at least drop you a star. Pulling the DCC scam automatically gets you a one star review if you didn't ask, or a two star review if you did.
