Panama, Kauai, San Miguel Allende?

Friends, trying to decide about a December trip with our 18 yr old daughter-been to HI several times, central america (Nic, Gua) but wondering about either Panama, Mexico, Ecuador or something else? Ideas, favorites? We have 10-14 days mid-December. Thanks!

Hi - just a quick comment (traveling myself at the moment) - this is the correct forum for 'where should we go' type questions. But it is one of the slowest boards on the site. You might want to also post on the Mexico/Central America and South America forums.

Sure those are all fine ideas. I don't think you need two weeks for SMdA only though. You could combine it with another one or two of the colonial towns (like Guanajuato?)

My personal Mexican go-to place is coastal... Puerto Vallarta. There is the Festival of the Virgin of Guadalupe going on there Dec 1-12 which is pretty magnificent.

Cant help with Panama or Kaui as we have never been (although Panama is high on our to go list).

We spent last November and December in Mexico and really enjoyed our time there and would return in a heartbeat (and no doubt will!). However, San Miguel was one of our least favourite places. Very much an expat enclave, it hardly seemed that we were in Mexico. Great if that is what you are seeking but we were happy to move on.

We loved our time in Oaxaca, Mexico City, Guanajuato and Zacatecas and would heartily recommend a combination of any of those. some of those places we have covered in our blog @ https://accidentalnomads.com/category/mexico/

We spent a week in Oaxaca and could easily have spent longer. it would make a nice combination with Mexico City / Puebla.

We spent 3/4 days apiece in Guanajuato and Zacatecas which was about right, but those two would make a nice combination with Mexico City.

Another nice combo would be Morelia and Patzcuaro. We really wished we has spent xmas in Morelia rather than Guadalajara.
