I went to Negril last year, Beautiful place. I loved every moment of it. All inclusive "hotel" and ticket came to 680 bucks

Someone suggest Montreal for a quick 3 day vacay. The train from NY was only 70 bucks. Ill look into it

Does that price for Instanbul include hotel?

The Istanbul price was for flight, hotel, and possibly half board (breakfast and dinner). I didn't check it out in detail.

Have you considered taking a cruise? You could definitely find something within your budget, just be wary of the single supplement.

A random search took me to Orbitz as a starting point:

The woman is looking for a package holiday. I would have thought it was easy enough to find those at any travel agent's office. She's even talking all-inclusive.

if you want to sense some real culture, you can visit INDIA. One of the most cheapest and the most fascinating wonders like Taj Mahal rest in India.

India is fascinating and infuriating in equal measure, but it is NOT a good destination for a first time traveler. These days it is not a very safe destination for solo female travelers, first time or not.

Oh geeze . . . you reprimand Jake . . . and make a mistake yourself. Jake's post was totally understandable w/o your lecture.

But I do agree w/ thursdaysd that India might not be a good choice for a first timer/female traveler.

I think it's a first time solo, but not the first time she's traveled out of the country. She mentioned being in Negril Jamaica at an AI last year.

There is very, very big difference between an AI in Jamaica and anywhere in India!!!! But jake seems to have joined Fodors just to push India.

Guatemala is great. Fun, lots of things to do and friendly people. It's also really cheap and everywhere outside of Guatemala City is safe to visit.

I agree completely thursdaysd! I would absolutely not be recommending India for this person. I'm not even so sure about Istanbul for that matter.

Cities in Canada are a great suggestion. Also anywhere in the Caribbean or Mexico she could find an affordable trip.

I just think for this low budget and only 7 days time to travel, Europe, Central and South America, SE Asia, etc. simply don't work.

If not Istanbul, how about Constantinople?

Well, I think Istanbul is plenty safe, and a great destination (along with a number of other places in Turkey), but lots of good places closer to home. For a slightly less visited but still excellent place I'd recommend Sicily, provided the OP can find a cheap flight (maybe on Icelandair or Virgin?)

Sicily for a week on $1000 all costs included? I think not.

"jake seems to have joined Fodors just to push India."

Kind of like suze pushing Puerto Vallarta. LOL

Or anyone pushing anywhere that THEY liked without any idea of what the OP would or would not like since the OP hasn't really given any info on interests other than 'fun'.

To say, 'I would like to go anywhere in the world for a week and alone', doesn't help narrow it down either.

this thread is a great example of a poorly thought out post without enough information for anyone to provide reasonable suggestions. It then provides a place for people to post about places THEY like with no regard to what the OP might like or dislike.

I only suggest Puerto Vallarta when it is appropriate to a specific request or if the question is so open that it might be of interest.

If someone wants to go 'anywhere in the world for a week solo', that means there are near infinite suggestions people may make on this forum. The poster can decide for themself what sound good.

All these suggestions were great. Whether my post was detailed or not, I still received the answers I needed. And I am certain that others will enjoy reading the suggested areas.

If you are going to answer a post, no need for negativity. Keep it moving.

again, all the help is appreciated
