yestravel--Sane here for the Delta flights. They cancelled as it was to Germany, so I don't expect any issues, but going through Amex should speed things up. Delta told one of my husbands coworkers they are still working on refunds from March.

I posted on the other thread re Airlines, that I had a Delta baggage fee refund that was approved early February, which finally posted on April 1. It was too small to brave any additional phone calls to backed up CSR centers.

Our flight was n May, but La Compagnie canceled in April. I don't know how the credit card works with the vendor/merchant. And my concern with a small airline is that they go out of business which is why after a month or so I turned to the credit card. Originally I was going to just reschedule for next year, but once again I'm concerned about bankruptcy. I realize I am not helping by asking for a refund.

Hope is not Alive

Seems Kulula Airlines' (South African local) British parent Comair is not firmly in bankruptcy proceedings. Our flight was supposed to be on 6/10 - 2 days ago. They've stopped responding - even with canned form letters. So, I guess, my $550 are poof. I wonder if others have faced similar circumstances with carriers going bust.

yes travel--That is tough, understanding a company's POV regarding refund vs voucher, but then again you hate to lose any money. We decided we will take the voucher from the car rental company, but I need to figure out just how many extra days our kids can take before I make that request to the agency. This weekend we were supposed to go backpacking, but its supposed to dump rain, so I guess a good time to sit with the big map and figure out the new plan.

mms could you share the two insurance companies that do offer covid coverage? they cover cancellations due to covid situations, or they cover medical expenses related to covid from the trip?

Right now I have Allianz travel insurance. They will not cover the cancellation of the trip but would cover illness due to covid. However, this policy was purchased long before the pandemic began.

jiaminlim7644--I cannot remember off the top of my head. I read about it on Rick Steve's forum and checked out a couple very briefly. One that I looked at though, the maximum for medical was 50,000 which is a drop in the bucket and would not be useful for very much, so I discounted that one immediately. I am still needing to do more research on this, but am busy with other stuff right now. I did do a google search after I looked at a few and more came up, but one said they didn't provide coverage for resident of WA state, which we are. So I am waiting and hoping the companies figure it out and come up with new policies that reflect the new issues we are up against. I am sorry I am not more help, but do go look at RS forum.

On another note, the other hotel that was nonrefundable has been good and are letting us change the dates.

I did get notification from Iceland Air this morning that they changed our flight, so thankfully now I can get the voucher and not have to pay any change fees.

I received notice today that my July 4 flight on SAS was cancelled. I submitted a request for a refund. We'll just wait and see how that goes.

Schmerl and others, I wish you the very best of luck with all your refunds. Our own refunds are still in the works too. There seems to be a psychological component at work. Many of us view Travel as perhaps one of the special 'make it pay' aspects of our lives, i.e. the payoff for all the shitty things that one endures while working. For many, the idea that an unexpected pandemic might cancel our long-awaited trips was bad enough----and the fact that businesses might not recompense us just adds salt to the wound.
I am done. The opinion.

Funny how sometimes one's intuition works bang on. Just yesterday i was saying to myself, "Golly, its been a while since we submitted our claim. Sure would like to hear back from the insurance folks. Hope like hell that they don't intend to jerk us around!" Sure enough, God's sense of humour: this morn we received an email response from the insurers, basically indicating that we are out of luck. Its complicated and we have ourselves to blame for some, but not all, of the substantial financial hit.
C'est la vie.
I am done. The ELP song.
Sigh...

Since my cruise and flight were cancelled, my trip insurance company is refunding the cost of our trip insurance. We'll see how long that takes.

We had a trip planned in April for Hawaii bit once the travel quarantine was put in place we canceled our trip. We were to fly with American. I received a refund to my credit card for our first flight but a credit for the returning home flights. Once i emailed American I did not want a credit they refunded my credit card. I was satisfied.

I finally got refunded for a non refundable hotel room. I had trip insurance on it and AIG sent a check which was received this week. I didn’t do insurance on the other room so am stuck with that credit which I don’t think will be used this year so most likely will be out of that money.

Before coronavirus pandemic, I booked my ticket from forevertourism.com, later I requested them to cancel my trip and refund the money since UAE Government banned the entry of a tourist and they deducted a nominal fee and refund my money.

Still waiting for my Ryanair refund... Had to cancel my trip to Spain due to the COVID and after calling them, sending them emails and letters, I only got one reply telling me that I won't get a refund or vouchers... very disappointed!
