Big digital camera OOPS! Need help, please.
Somehow when I was in London, the button on the top got turned to video so more than half my photos can't be downloaded to Photobucket.
I tried to download them there as videos but it wouldn't work. How do I get these pics changed to something like a jpeg format or gif?
Should I take the SD cards to a photo place & just have them put on CDs? Will I then be able to put them on Photobucket.
Sorry but please speak slowly. I'm not real good at this stuff.

Degas is not correct. I have worked with photo and video capture software to present in court cases which allows you to select specific frames from video and turn them into a digital photo. It is not a household software/hardware item but you can ask around at video production companies or professional photographers and they can get photos off of your video. The down side is that the photos will not be as sharp from a video capture as a still photo would be.

If you know someone who is computer-savvy, they might have the software to do still captures from the video clips.
As Jorr says, the quality will not be as good as if you had taken still shots, but you will have photos.
This site lists a couple free video decompiler programs for use with Windows:

LOL, I would take the advice of degas, obviously a light hearted joke, but it sounds as good as any excuse to get to go back to London
Carrybean, we had some digital photos that we wanted to convert to disc and took them to a very good camera shop in our town..these people live and breathe photography and film..we got everything put on disc but perhaps they (the ones in your town) will be able to figure out something for you..if none of them post on Fodors
Worst case scenario, you can make video copies..
You must be a Smarty, talking slowly about camera stuff still doesn't help me

Yes, I think I need to go back to London. The pictures look just like stills but seem to be in a video format.
Thanks for the help. I'll take the SD cards to our work computer guy & if he can't do anything, I'll take them to the photo place & see what they can do.

Hi there Carrybean, I hope you better luck receiving those airline tickets from degas than I did when he said "the check was in the mail" when I invested some money for one of his schemes..er I mean inventions. I will assume degas doesn't know that envelopes need to have the proper postage put on them. Best to think he is a bit lax regarding postal rules than to believe that he would con one, doncha think?

My DH did this also on a recent fishing trip. Six of his C & R fishies were possibly lost forever. I opened the video in the HP photo software that we have on the computer (it may have come with an HP phot printer we have). It will capture the frame you want and allow you to print the picture. The picture looked quite good when printed. We were not able to save that capture as a photo though. We still have to save it as a video.

Degas, just post the record locator.
An update: I took the SD thingies to the computer guy at work. He managed to make them jpegs but the quality is bad so I'll just chalk this up as another dumb thing that happened. Dang it.
