BE WARNED.

I purchased plane tickets from www.traficoperu.com last week, and now someone in Peru has used my credit card to purchase a computer from Dell Peru. I got it all straightened out with the bank and there will be an investigation into the incident.

I did in fact receive tickets, and everything was processed just as described in other threads on this forum (ordered online, received an email, sent them all required info and credit authorization form, received e-tickets). Overall, however, I am very dissatisfied!

There really are only two ways that my credit card information was stolen: someone at TraficoPeru used it, sold it, shared it, or whatever OR someone intercepted the transmission of my personal information. I hate to point the finger, but it's too strong of a coincidence that I gave TraficoPeru my credit card information and 1 day later my credit card was used for an unauthorized purchase! It smells like a scam to me!

How did you send them your cc info? e.g. email, fax, post?

You have no liability if you reported it..

Have had no problems when I used them in the past...

But usually these things are inside jobs

from disgruntled or dishonest employees

qwovadis, you know a lot about Peru so I have a question for you. (or any other Peru expert) I realize this type of thing can happen in any country, but it seems Peru is worse than most regarding credit/debit card fraud. For one, I have read a lot of posts like this on our site. Also when I returned from Peru I learned that 4 people in my group had their bank accounts drained a few weeks after our trip. Upon hearing this I decided to be proactive and replace my debit card immediately in case mine had been cloned as well. So tell me please, is this a greater problem in Peru than most other countries? Thanks.

Thanks for the heads up. We used our 2 debit cards for two separate accounts for 3 1/2 months last year all over Europe with no problems whatsoever. I am now planning our trip to Peru and I think I need to go about it a little differently. I don't know how but hopefully someone here will have some suggestions.

I have also used debit cards in many parts of the world with no problems. If I were returning to Peru I would still use the debit card, but I would replace it as soon as I got home. This is a quick and free process at the bank, or it can be done by phone with most banks.

But having said all that, surely most people have no problems using credit/debit cards in Peru. I would only do this because of my previous experience.
