Which Starwood property in Lima Peru?

A couple of months ago I booked the Westin Lima for a 2 night stay this April at the end of a week we will be in Peru. I booked it for cash plus points because at the time it seemed like a good deal; $110 plus 6000 points.

Now, when I look at my dates, we can book a room at a pre-paid non refundable rate for $120 a night. Suddenly the C+P does not seem like such a deal and has me reevaluating my options.

Other options:
Sheraton Lima for $35 plus 2000 points or for 3000 points/night
Four Points in Miraflores for $55 plus 3500 points a night or 7000 points a night.

I'm SPG Gold and will never have enough paid nights per year for Platinum so paying for the night just to get the credits for that doesn't make sense, but neither does spending 6,000 points to save $10.

Where (if any) are we more likely to get upgraded with Gold status?

Which hotel has the best location for sightseeing?

The Westin seems like the "nicest" and hotel, and $120, but it is pre-paid and non refundable if we go that way. Location seems a bit far out.
The Sheraton would essentially cost us nothing but tax at 3000 points per night but I've read it's a bit shabby and the location isn't great (but not that far from the Westin).
The Four Points in Miraflores might be a nice location, but is $55 +3500 points a good deal there if the regular rate is $110/night (also prepaid nonrefundable)? From what I've read the hotel is new, and fairly nice, but I've never stayed in a Four Points.

Given my options I'd love opinions/recommendations on what I should do for those two nights.

I think the Sheraton has the best location if you actually want to sight see around the Plaza de Armas. There are a number of advantages, it is located about a block from the main Metropolitano rapid transit station and there is a shopping center built around the Sheraton. Also, I believe they offer a shuttle service around town.

Personally I would go with the Sheraton. For the most part you will be taking a taxi at night back from any restaurant, anyways.

BTW there is a branch of Rustica in the shopping center near the Sheraton (an inexpensive buffet and a way to sample lots of Peruvian specialties for minimal cost).

Thanks. Actually leaning toward Miraflores right now. A friend who has been to Lima many times recommended we stay there over the area around the Sheraton.

In talking to him I realized I'd rather take a taxi or public transport during the day and have more places to walk to at night closer to the hotel.

Just for the record I've also been to Lima many times. I don't like Miraflores, it is quite noisy with lots of casinos. but the Four Points is only a few blocks from Park Kennedy, where a number of the bus tours depart from. Also you will have a choice of upscale and low end restaurants.

I stay in Barranco but wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Sheraton (have stayed a few blocks away). Downtown has gone thru a great improvement in the past 3 or 4 years, so if your friend has not been there in a while, his/her information may be dated.

I've decided to go with the Four points in Miraflores. I think for our first visit, and considering we're only there for a day and a half, that's what's going to work best for us. I'll make sure to report back.

Reporting back...

The Four Points in Miraflores was fine. The room and bathroom were smallish, but nicely set up. Breakfast was included with our rate and it was ok.

The location was decent, within walking distance to the beach, Kennedy park, a big public Mercato and the major Metropolitano bus line. But the area considered "Miraflores" is huge and some of the restaurants I was interested in were a 30 minute cab ride away, yet still considered to be in Miraflores. We were within walking distance of a fabulous Japanese/Peruvian restaurant called Maido. Expensive but worth every penny.

We took the bus up to the historical area and while I'm sure it would have been fine to stay near there, I would have felt isolated there too.
Lima is just a HUGE city, like Los Angeles. Like LA, Lima is really spread out and no one area is "perfect" for tourists.
