Tsunami Warnings-South America

< Chile, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador put communities and ports on their Pacific coasts on tsunami alerts after Japan was hit by its strongest earthquake in at least a century.>

Check with your airline carriers, Lan and others are changing their schedules.
Stay safe.

I don't know where LAN might be changing schedules because of possible tsunamis, but nothing in or out of Chile has changed for that reason. None of the international airports in the Pacific rim countries of South America are at sea level except Lima.

A tsunami alert is not the same as a warning. An alert means the situation is being monitored. Given that the waves to arrive at Hawaii were much smaller than expected, it is unlikely that other areas will be hit with much larger waves. Easter Island will be the best indication as the waves would hit there before mainland Chile about four hours later. All residents and tourists on Easter Island will be evacuated to the area of the airport, 45 meters above sea level, starting at midday as a precautionary measure.

Hours earlier today, La Nacion was where I had read about Tsunami Warnings. I believe there were 10 countries in all included in the warnings.
