Torres del Paine in Winter
I am in the very early stages of thinking about a trip to South America for next winter (July or early August 2014). From what I've researched and read so far, it's unclear to me whether or not hotels in or near the park are open in the winter months. Also are visits to the park possible, for day hikes, trips to the glaciers, etc. Thank you!

Most lodging closes but some does stay open. You need to check each hotel or Fantastico Sur and Vertice for lodges. Day trips are always possible but certain paths close due to snow.
The park is very beautiful in winter, less wind and , obviously, fewer visitors. It takes more planning because infrastructure is more limited but there is no reason not to go. Just plan ahead and take appropriate clothing.

Thank you, Huentetu, for your advice. I will check out your recommendations on lodges. Do you know if transportation will be available at that time of year, from Puntas Arenas to and from the park? Thanks again.
