Tap water in Argentina?

I've gotten mixed messages talking to friends who've been to Argentina about drinking tap water. I have been to Chile and did drink tap water and never got sick, but in Peru, I only used bottled water (and never got sick). I don't want to use up all those plastic bottles if I don't have to.

We are going to Buenos Aires, Villa de la Angostura, El Calafate/El Chalten, Tucuman, Cafayate, Salta and Purmamarca.

Thanks for your help!

I have visited Argentina regularly since 2001. I have drunk the tap water in my travels around the country: Buenos Aires, Iguazu, Mar de Plata, Bariloche, Cordoba, San Martin de los Andes, Salta and Cafayate. Never had a problem.

The other country in South America I have visited more than once was Ecuador, where I am reluctant to shower in much less drink the water.

The water in Argentina is OK, as the esteemed drdawggy said above, but, if you wish to play it safe, stick to bottled mineral water. Una Villavicencio con gas, bien fría, por favor. One cold carbonated Villavicencio (my favorite brand), please, is what I would order.

I was careful upon arriving in BA but after a while I was making coffee with the tap water and generally not worrying about it. I never had any problems from it. Now we drink only bottled water but that is partly because we live in an ancient building and I wonder about the pipes :- )
My favorite bottled water con or sin gas is Ecco de los Andes.
