Star Peru Airlines Baggage Restrictions - Hand Baggage Especially! 5 kgs!?

Hello .. We will be traveling to Peru for 2 weeks in December ... Looking to fly using Star from and to Lima - Iquitos and then again from and to Lima - Cuzco ... I was able to decipher on the website and couple of google searches later, that they allow one checked bag of 25kgs each, which is perfect for us ... but is it true that the hand baggage is 5kg only?

If it is true, how strictly do they enforce it?

The main issue is going to be my husband's camera bag ... He is a photographer and his handbag is the camera backpack ... While it is a regular size backpack that counts as a hand bag in ALL other airlines (even can pass for a personal size backpack in some airlines), it is by NO means going to weigh 5kg ... So what will be our options then? We are three of us traveling with 2 checked bags, so it can count as a third checked bag, but there is no way we can let it get checked in with such expensive equipment in there ...

What is the kind of overhead space in the Star planes? Will they let us keep the bag under the seat or something?

5 kg = 11 pounds x 3 = 33 pounds total for the three of you. Can you split up some of his equipment into two other carry-on bags?

here is a link which shows the sizes as well as the weight. seems pretty standard. Check yours is within the limits. I would never put my camera equipment in the hold so jeff's suggestion may be wise if it does not fit. The planes they use appear to be Bae 146s or Boeing 737s again fairly standard overhead storage.

on starperu.com in the past with no probs

it has been a couple of years though odds are they are unchanged

bag restrictions present but not enforced as longs a your pack

does not fit in overheads... Sprit.com has started charging

Thanks all ... So looks like we will have to split up the camera bag into two .. Which will not be fun to do ... But thanks for the tip ..

Do they weigh the carry on bags at check in or like qwovadis mentioned, that carry on is a problem only if it does not fit in the over head bin?
