@ Faedus: Thanks again for reading this long trip report and sharing your observations!
I enjoyed my time in Peru immensely and am happy if my words help inspire others to visit not just Machu Picchu and Cuzco (wonderful as they are), but also some of the other magnificent and fascinating places in this diverse country. And it sounds like you learned of a few things to add on to your time in Chiclayo – yay! I think you will appreciate the Huaca Rajada Museum and, if you can get to it, Ventarron is, IMO, awesome and unlike anything else in Peru.
FWIW, I don’t think my choice was between Ventarron and Sipan, given that the woman running that tour company knew I’d already seen Sipan. All I know for sure is that it was in a different direction than Ventarron and featured one or more high-ranking women of a past culture. I think it might have been Chotuna-Chornancap, but that’s just a guess.
BTW: When I see a question asking if X is worthwhile, my normal conclusion is that it is not worth my while to respond.
I haven’t re-read this report yet, but I did pull up my photos and have to admit that there are parts of Lima’s Plaza Mayor that are far more attractive than I remembered. I guess it’s true what they say about absence and fondness.
Enjoy your trip, Faedus!

Well, it appears that you’ve come through for me one more time — I now have the name of yet another intriguing site that was not open by my first trip there — namely, Chotuna Chornancap — that I can now add to my Chiclayo itinerary. (In your main text, by the way, I see that you alluded to this site, but without mentioning the name — but that’s all right, I have the name now!)
And though they don’t know it, the owners of my chosen Chiclayo hotel may also have cause to be grateful to you — with all I’ve learned from your report, I find I may have to give them at least one night’s business more than I’ve already reserved!

@ Faedus: Just to be clear, I don't know that the option I was given was Chotuna-Chornancap; I don't think I was given the name, or if I was, it didn't register. I just know that it was a site involving a powerful woman (or women) in a direction that prevented visiting it from Chiclayo on the same day as Ventarron. My guess -- and it is just a guess -- is that it was Chotuna-Chornancap. I can say that if I were to go back to Chiclayo, I would try to visit it -- and I hope you let me know whether you do and what you think of it!
