Peru with Intrepid Travel

Hi, We are considering a 15 day trip to Peru with Intrepid Travel. They have a great deal on. Has anyone used Intrepid for Peru? Any opinions or suggestions on Intrepid? Thanks very much. Joan

You can search the forums for "Intrepid". I don't see that name come up with respect to Peru. Probably because it is so easy to self-plan and because there are many Peruvian companies and individual gudes as an alternative.

They re budget Oz based tour roup like Gap or nowcalled "G"
in Canada ok not great seen a fair # of negatives on the boards cheaper lodging small xport mandatory "kitty" that add 15% to cost.Personally might shop around a bit. They sub their
tours out to lower tier guides remember a Galapagos boat they
had was probably intentionally wrecked during a cruise a few years back.

I'd be asking who Intrepid use as their ground operator in Peru and then looking for reviews of this company. Peru is inexpensive to book with a private guide such as Percy Salas (email [email protected]), otherwise I'd look at an operator such as Explore Worldwide who provide consistent standards throughouit their trips.

I've travelled with both Intrepid and Explore Worldwide. Intrepid are fine for Asia however I prefer Explore for Africa and I used private guides for South America. If you have an idea of what you would like to do, post some more details and I shall be more specific - there are many people here with great experience of Peru travel who readily share hints and tips.

Happy planning,

Pol

I have no actual experience of using Intrepid so can't really venture an opinion on how good or bad they are. However, Peru has a well trodden tourist path and it is one of the easiest countries in South America to travel DIY.

With a little research and planning here and on other sites like www.saexplorers.org and http://www.andeantravelweb.com/ it is pretty straightforward to organise a trip that exactly meets your own needs rather than having to go along with a group (probably cheaper too).

Why not use Intrepid's detailde specimen itineraries as a base for the trip and compare the cost and benefits and maybe buy a good guidebook. 15 days is a good amount of time to see at least some of the main highlights of the country at a reasonable pace.
