Ferias in BA
Have but one Sunday to enjoy the ferias of BA. Recommendations please! Is it possible to do more than one in a day? I may be misinformed, are there ferias on Saturdays, too? Thanks. PaTricia

The feria you cannot miss on a Sunday is San Telmo.
I sent you a thread about it and you'll find tons of info on the subject in the same source as well as here.
Yes, there are ferias on Saturdays too.
Have a great time in our town.

I suggest going to Recoleta Feria on Saturday, then do a split between Feria de Mataderos and San Telmo on Sunday.
Mataderos is a gaucho fair with folk dancers and gauchos on horseback, totally unlike anything else in Buenos Aires. Late Sunday morning take the subte out to the end of the E line at Plaza de los Virreyes, then catch a cab - about a 10-15 minute ride. It's not in a good neighborhood, so just stay within the 3-4 blocks of the fair itself.
You can then do the reverse, hopping off the E line at the Independencia stop and walk over to Plaza Dorrego for San Telmo in late afternoon.

The Feria in Recoleta, just in front of the cemetery/church, is open on Saturdays, too. It is on the lawn, while San Telmo is along the streets. Both are fun and interesting and they seem to have somewhat different foci (San Telmo has antiques as well as crafts and jewelry; Recoleta seems to have more clothing and bags, along with the crafts and jewelry)and there is a feria in Palermo as well, that I believe is on the weekend days. Both often have music - San Telmo will likely have some tango and pantomime.
The caution in buying leather goods or jewelry or clothing at any feria (or stores, for that matter) is to inspect it well - no one else will have - and then you can get some very nice gifts (for you and others)...and have a fun time doing it !

In Summer, the Recoleta Feria often has musical entertainment , keep an eye out for that too. My favorite things from the Recoleta Feria are the knitted things, sweaters, scarves, ponchos, beautiful work. The ladies sit and knit at their tables .. My sister in law loves the leather / tapestry fabric handbags.. she buys them as gifts when she comes to visit then ends up keeping one lol.
I like the Mataderos and having been to the Sunday San Telmo Feria too many times, I think the Mataderos is better. Not that the San Telmo is bad but the Mataderos is just better, with the horse races and and entertainment and all.

Since we will reutrn to BA for 4 days after our trip to Peru, we are trying to decide between San Antonio de Areco and the Feria de Mataderos - we would have only 1 Sunday (Nov.4th) We love Ferias but wonder if there would be any events yet at the Gaucho Festival to warrant spending all day travelling out to San Antonio de Areco. Is the flavor of the Feria de Mataderos the same? Thanks for any advice!
