Cusco to Ollantaytambo buses - carsick?

So, I've heard that it is definitely worth it to hang out in Ollantaytambo for a couple of days on my way to Machu Picchu. I definitely want to check it out, but the only way seems to be by bus or taxi.

I tend to get carsick on windy roads, so I'm a little worried I won't be able to handle it. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks!

We stayed in urumbamba and Ollantaytambo for several weeks and did this trip a number of times by bus and taxi. I do not get car sick but dont recall that the road was any more winding than others in the region. On the bus you will need to change at the bus station in Urumbamba for Olly. The buses from Cusco-Urumbama are not too bad but the local buses from Urumbamba to Olly were a bit rough and leave on a "when full" basis and so can be very crowded. A taxi should cost around 50 soles and the bus around 10soles.(NB you will need to bargain hard for the taxi). the advantage of the taxi is, of course, you can stop whenever you want, change seats, stop etc. whenever you choose. Finally, make it clear to the taxi driver that you are hiring the whole car. Do not allow him to pick up other passengers along the way.

Cusco sits at a higher elevation than Ollantaytambo and the Sacred Valley. There are a few curves in the road as you come out of the mountains and descend into the valley, but it's not what I would call a winding mountain road. It's a decent highway. And then once you get into the valley, the roads are pretty flat and straight.

Cusco is 11000 ft always best to go down to SV/MP

for a couple of days to adjust so you do not get sick

then come back and visit Cusco.
