Curitiba or Salvador de Bahia?
I am planning a trip to Brazil and Argentina for the first time for November, and want to get your thoughts and opinions on which would be a better city to visit: Curitiba or Salvador de Bahia. Other places visited will be Rio de Janeiro, Iguazu Falls, Buenos Aires, El Calafate, and El Chalten. Thanks.

Unless you are a dedicated student of urban design or public transport then that's pretty easy to answer: Salvador.
Curitiba is a mildly interesting spot if you know Brazil well, it provides something of a contrast to other cities. It's green, pleasant but somwehat dull. It is however conveniently located on your route.
Salvador is a cultural treasure. It's quite unique. Fabulous music cuisine and architecture. A lot to explore ina and around the city. Make sure you put at least three days aside.

I've been to Salvador (Bahia) twice and to Curitiba once. If I were you, I'd choose Bahia, the most African of all of the cities in Brasil.
When I was last there in 2005, I met a couple from Israel in Foz do Iguassu who had just left Bahia. The wife stated that she found this particular city to be unique and a rather different experience that she had encountered throughout her travels in this the largest South American country.
I went---had a guide---did an extensive cultural program independently with him and loved the place so much that I went the following year in 2006.
----------
...spent four days/nights in Curitiba. ...had a pleasant stay and enjoyed its ecological significance, but it left much less of an impact on me than Salvador (Bahia), Brasil.
Lastly--read up on both places. If you plan to engage the services of a guide-- I'd recommend Fernando B. He's now on www.tripadvisor.com. I'm quite certain that he'd make your experience both enjoyable and memorable!
