Cost of hiring a guide/driver in Sacred Valley Area

One thing about booking trips on your own is that you miss having the little extras (airport transfers, day guides, etc) tossed in to the mix. I'm not sure if we'll arrange a guide for a day in advance or just wait till we get there and find a taxi driver we like, but I would like to have a rough idea of the cost for a daily guide or driver.

I was quoted $70 for a five hour horse tour, which seems reasonable, We'd be going to Maray, the salineras and one other spot.

thanks!

Pay more like $50 but $70 for a day is not bad.

www.apulodge.com good insider info on best local

driver/guides prices.

Might consider combining my taxi ride down from

CUZ (paid $25 for that last year) with some toruistic stops.

Have fun,

We were "quoted" 60soles for a full day in the SV. It turned out to be a scam and the driver tried to charge us 300 soles. In the end we settled on 150 soles. I am guessing that was the going rate - i.e. around $50 US.

We used to get a taxi from Olly to Cusco for 50 soles but you do need to bargain quite hard on occasions to get a decent price.

If going from Olly, then early morning around the Plaza is the best time to strike a deal (before tehy head back to Cusco). Supply and demand rule - the more taxis there are around, the better the price you will be able to strike.

if travelling form cusco then it is likely to be a little more difficult - try asking any drivers you use if you can hire them for the day.

You will pay more for an English speaking guide, vs a taxi driver with only Spanish/

If you try to book thru expensive hotels such as where you are staying it will be 3x independent.

A number of guides have been recommended here over the years eg Percy Salas, David Choque.

You don't really need a guide for Moray and Salineras (unless of course you are on someone's horses).

Some sites such as Ollantaytambo hive guides for hire at the entrance.
