Cool Foodie Excursion from Buenos Aires
Hi! In 2 weeks I'm leaving for one week in Buenos Aires. We'd like to get out of the city for the day, but don't have a lot of time so we're not keen to travel too far. I've been looking for some foodie sort of excursions and day trips. I don't know if there are some restaurants, or cool markets, or anything really special for a foodie. I want it to be a surprise for my fiance who is really into that stuff. Any ideas??? Thanks!

My first choice for a day trip from BA would be to get teh ferry accross the river to Colonia del Sacremento in Uruaguay. It is a UNESCO world heritage site and really pictureque with lots to see. There are also lots of very good restaurants there.

Tigre, the delta area would also make a nice day trip by train from BA. I do recall reading an account on this forum from someone that went on an organised trip which included cooking lessons in someomnes home and a trip to the market. If you type Tigre in the search box (top right of the page)this should find it.

I agree with crellston, Colonia is a perfect day trip .. you see a lovely old town, have a nice lunch , wander, take photos then come back to BA and have a nice dinner somewhere ..
The only thing is , I don't know of "foodie excursions" here.
There are some very Very good restaurants in BA .. there are unusual restaurants and but I don't know about excursions.
A good guide book will give you an idea of what the dining scene is here, Conde Nast Traveler has dozens of good articles you can look up online ..
We all have our favorites too
There are produce markets all over town but Chinatown ( in Belgrano) has the best "different" in my opinion, market .. Of course, on the weekend, you can visit a Feria or two .. but that is not really anything Foodie related ..
I guess if you are surprising your fiance....
Look into Oviedo. http://www.oviedoresto.com.ar/
and Look at the idea of going to a Closed door restaurant
