We are planning a trip to Argentina and Uruguay in December. We know that there is a risk of yellow fever in parts of Argentina - but we are not going to those parts. If we stay in the "safe" areas of Argentina, will Uruguay allow us in without proof of yellow fever vaccinations? If so, what kind of proof will we need to show that we didn't go to the risky parts of Argentina?

Uruguay does require a YF certificate - CDC website

"Although yellow fever is not a disease risk in Uruguay, the government requires travelers arriving from countries where yellow fever is present to present proof of yellow fever vaccination. If you will be traveling to one of these countries where yellow fever is present before arriving in Uruguay, this requirement must be taken into consideration."

I have been vacinated and have the certificate stapled in my passport. Did the Uruguayan immigration inspect it upon entry from Argentina? No!but it was very early in the morning at asmall border post and someone/where a bit more switched on may well do. Most immigration people will only take notice of which countries you have been to, not whereabouts in those countries you have visited.

So many people travel between Uruguay and Argentina every day. I find it hard to believe that they are all vaccinated against yellow fever.

I do make a point to keep my YF immunization up to date, even if I have no immediate plans to travel to some country where it could be a problem. It's good for 10 years, and who knows where you might want to travel in that time?

Thanks, all. We appreciate the quick responses. For various reasons, not all in our group are able to get the vaccine...so, we're going to Uruguay first and then to Argentina, just to avoid any possible issues.
