San Francisco: new and tried and true...
i try to make it out to San Francisco once a year to visit family and each time i try to do at least one "new" thing. so this April i will be taking my 10 year old son to PacBell to see a Giants game, go to the Conservatory of Flowers, have some great sounding spa treatments at TruSpa (underneath the Holiday Inn on Kearny Street).....try the Zuni Cafe....feed those voracious squirrels in Golden Gate Park....
any comments or suggestions about any of the above?
things i've done before and will more than likely do again: the Zoo, paddleboats on Stow Lake, Noe Valley, stroll down 24th Street, Eric's for Chinese food, go to Mill Valley....drinks/apps at Ana Mandara....
i love SF!

thanks for the suggestions. i think my son would like the Exploratorium (isn't this home of the Tactile Dome??) and i would love to go to the Asian Art Museum. my dad and i went when it was next to Steinhart and we only had about 60 minutes before it closed for the day. do you think a 10 year old would enjoy it, or would that be a great opportunity to stay at the house and bond with his cousins in West Portal??

On the Asian Art Museum: it would be better for him to stay with his cousins.
You would definitely feel uncomfortable having him see the Shiva/Shakti bonding statues which are so often misunderstood by Westerners. You would understand that it means SPIRITUAL bonding - the coming together to make one whole - he will be too young to appreciate this.
The newer Asian Art Museum, now near City Hall, is much better than the old one in the Golden Gate Park. It would rank as one of the best Asian Art Museums in the world. It's really for adults. Enjoy!

As soon as I read "10 year old son" I thought Exploratorium. And you won't be bored either!
If you are getting a car for any day trips (you mentioned Mill Valley), you might consider Muir Woods for a look at the redwoods and a beautiful walk.

i was just on the Asian Art Museum website: wow! maybe i can drag my brother away from his office for a late afternoon/early evening visit.
we went to Muir Woods and Muir Beach a few years ago and loved it. we went very early in the a.m. big highlight for my son were the chipmunks running around by the gift shop.....seagulls ate our picnic remains at Muir Beach, much to his delight...who knew they loved grapes?
