Maui Four Seasons in June - restaurants and other questions...

Hi all! We will be honeymooning for a week at the FS in June and I just have a couple of questions.

Of the three restaurants at the FS - Spago, Pacific Grill, and Ferraro's - which would you most recommend? I saw on the FS website that Pacific Grill has an "Ultimate Romantic Dinner". Here's what the site says:

Delight in the tastes of paradise while privately nestled above Wailea Beach. Enjoy spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean as well as the stunning West Maui Mountains. Share in the romance of a brilliant Maui sunset with a flute of champagne. With the special touch of Four Seasons Resort Maui, island guests have an exceptional opportunity for an evening of romance.

While dining under a canopy of stars, fine china, crystal, silver, candlelight and fragrant tropical flowers set the stage. Savour the leisurely five-course dinner created with our award-winning chefs in a private consultation, accompanied by wines paired with each course by the Sommelier of Four Seasons Resort Maui. An exclusive server attends to every detail, adding the final touch to your Ultimate Romantic Dinner.

Has anyone done this dinner or know anything about it (i.e. cost)?

Last question, what is the dress code for the nicer restaurants in Maui? Even in June I know it will be cooler at night, but I was just wondering about the dress code.

Thanks!
Meg

I'm pretty sure what you're talking about is a private dinner they set up for you on one of the lawns - and if I'm not mistaken, it costs $600! Needless to say, we did not choose that option on our honeymoon there last July. But we did eat in all three restaurants, and I thought Ferarro's was the most romantic of all. The other two are great (Pacific Grill's seafood buffet on Fridays is amazing - you MUST do that if you're there on a Friday), but both Pac Grill and Spago's dining outdoor dining areas have a semi-enclosed feel - Ferarro's outdoor seating really feels like you're right over the ocean. Plus, there's a violinist, and tiki torches around the restaurant - we just thought it was our best dinner on the island, and we went to all the good ones (Mama's, David Paul's, Sorrento's, Nick's, in addtion to the other two at the 4S). You're going to have a great time!

Oh, and dress code varies - we dressed up a bit because I wanted to, but people wear shorts *everywhere* so dress is really whatever you want.

UWS, Thanks so much for your help! Eeek, $600?! I think we'll pass on that. That's a bit pricy, even for our 'moon. Ferraro's sounds really nice, being right on the ocean.

I figured the dress code is kind of "anything goes", but we will probably dress up because that is what we are used to.

On the dress code...you'll be out of place if you are really "dressed up." For nice dinners I usually wore a sun dress or skirt/top with sandals, and hubby wore khaki's and a polo. We never really saw anything much dressier than that.

We were there for our HM in august. That dinner is definitely in the $600 range -- I looked at it too and then found out how much it was!!

The dressiest I ever got was a sundress and that was for the nicer restaurants like Nick's. My husband usually wore a linen shirt or polo shirt. Jackets for men are unheard of in Maui....

Also, if you need a break from the more expensive meals, we had good food at the Maui Tacos branch in Kihei. It's literally about 3.5 min. from the FS. We both ate for about $15-18.

Thanks again for all of your replies. For dinner I was just planning on a sun dress for me and pants/collared shirt for FH (then DH)...not coat and tie, or anything over-the-top like that. We just prefer to wear something beyond jeans or shorts.

Does it cool off quite a bit at night? I am from Florida so I am used to *hot* weather and I have been to Hawaii before and know it gets very warm during the day, but if I remember correctly it does cool off at night - is that correct?

It never cooled off at night when we were there a few weeks ago- in fact the evenings were often muggy...is was more comfortable during the day!

We saw a few couples enjoying their $600 meals. Yikes! It is just as romantic to order a pizza and sit by the ocean and watch the sunset!
