Time at airport before departure for internal flights?

Hello,

I have an Aeromexico flight tomorrow morning due to leave at 12.30pm from Mexico City, flying to San Luis Potosi, and my boarding pass says to arrive 3 hours before the flight, is so much time beforehand really necessary? International flights generally only require you to arrive 2 hours before. We have no luggage to check in, just carry on.

Also, we want to take public transport to the airport, is the metro the best option? We're coming from the Holiday Inn Express Reforma

My experience in Mexico is that domestic flights are 2 hours in advance, whereas international flights are 3 hours. I've not taken the metro to the airport. I've read that luggage is not permitted on the metro, don't know if if that includes carry on size. Hopefully someone else here or on TA will chime in

Thanks, from posts on TA it sounds like it might be better to opt for an Uber. How bad is the traffic here, and so how much before should I head to the airport to get there for around 10am? I've little to no experience of it as I usually take the metro to get around the city

If Aeromexico says to arrive 3 hours before flight time, that is what I would do.

I would plan on an hour to allow for traffic or some other delay. Normal traffic, probably take you a half hour or so. But often, things aren't normal in Mexico. You'd hate to miss your flight and have that cascade into a bunch of other inconveniences. If I'm recalling correctly, your leg from CDMX to SLP kind of sets up the rhythm for the rest of your trip.

Thanks for the help, everyone. We ended up taking the metro as we were worried about getting stuck in traffic. All worked out fine, we are here 3 hours before, with a lot of time to kill! The airport is a bit chaotic with all the renovations, but we found our way

I would always be happier killing time at an airport, even if it seems stupid early, then somehow stuck on my way trying to get there. Well done.
