Valley Forge

A friend group is planning a visit to Philadelphia area in 2026. We’re looking for a day trip tour to Valley Forge. The National Park Service trolley tour is perfect but isn’t operating in our time frame.
Any suggestions/ideas/recommendations from Fodorites will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Will you have a car? As you know, I live locally but only visited once after shopping at KOP. We missed the trolly as it was sold out. I did go on a weekend so lots of people out and about. For a while followed the trolly but it was too slow so we bypassed it. I did pick up a map in the visitor center so we used that.

Thanks Sassy. We are very senior “senior citizens” & prefer not to drive. Also, it would be more than 1 car so keeping on track & together could be tricky. We want a vehicle for transport & a guide.

Oh I see. I have used used Viator to fund tours when I travel elsewhere. Some people here don't like them because they are a 3rd party but you could still find the tour company listed in the description. I see they have tours for Valley Forge that pick up i thought I saw at the visitor center if I'm not mistaken. That might be worth looking at.

I live about ten minutes from Valley Forge Park.
Go to the Visitors Center and you will learn a lot about the park and its history.
They also have maps. It is very easy to navigate on your own.
I don't know how big your group is, but maybe you could arrange a private tour with the park rangers. We have arranged private tours for our school students.
Of course, no one is working at the park now due to the shut down.

Where will you be staying? Do you need transportation from your lodging location and a tour of the park? Or are you able to get to the park on your own?

Thank you for the posts, ladies. We’re not planning to drive. We’ll hire a driver with van to transport us.
Some of us wish to stay in Philadelphia, others suggested a suburb.
Normandy Farm Inn near Blue Bell was mentioned but I think it is a bit far from center city. We’re researching accommodations.
Any suggestions?

Normandy Farms is lovely, but is at least an hour drive to center city.
There are several hotels in King of Prussia which is closer to center city and right there at Valley Forge Park.

Thank you Schmerl, Sassy & k_marie for replies….here’s the decision: we are staying at Normandy Farms.
We have a van service. More info soon. 🇺🇸

Looking forward to hearing your plans. The park has a lot of activities planned for the 250 celebration.

Is there a particular reason your group wants to stay in the Bluebell area? There isn't much to do there and it is not close to center city Philadelphia or Valley Forge Park.
King of Prussia had a LOT of hotels, MANY restaurants, a casino, movie theater, great shopping, is only about 30 minutes from Center City and Valley Forge Park is right there.
Whatever you choose, I hope you enjoy my home town area.

We've been to Valley Forge a couple of times, and yes, when we found out the ziplines weren't available on the dates we wanted, we were initially upset. But then we simply picked up a park map from the Visitor Center and drove the entire Encampment Loop. It's about 10 miles, and at each stop you can get off, walk around, read the signs, and explore the remains of the fortifications. The best part is that no one rushes you; you decide where to stop and how much time to spend with wageon fans. We had time to explore everything from morning until lunchtime, stopped in the museum, and listened to a ranger's tour. If you want a historical atmosphere without the crowds and a rigid schedule, this is a worthwhile option.
