NOLA and Ocean Springs, MS in January

My husband and I will be in NOLA for the Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass concert on January 16, 2026. We’ve been to NOLA a few times but not in January. We absolutely love the great food in NOLA! I have family in Ocean Springs so we will also head that way for a few days. I have a few questions.

What kind of weather should I plan for that time of year? We will be there over MLK, Jr. Day. Is there anything special that goes on for the holiday? We usually stay in the French Quarter but was thinking of staying in the Garden District. How is it to ride the streetcar? Where does it go? What other recommendations do you have for what to see while in NOLA? We’ve been to the WWII Museum (fabulous place) and have toured/seen most of the French Quarter. Any particular jazz clubs you recommend? We’d want to go to a club we can sit down and not stand for the music. Other museums, tours, etc.? Thanks for your help!

Also, any recommendations for Ocean Springs. I went once last year and really enjoyed the cute downtown with great shops and ate at The Lady May which was very good. Not sure what there is to do in January. Appreciate any tips for either/both places! Were thinking of staying at the Inns of Ocean Springs but open to other suggestions.

We are in our mid-60’s. We are thinking of renting a car to drive to Ocean Springs but not have it while staying in NOLA. We are big foodies, love jazz, culture and museums.

If you want a cute town and don't mind driving a bit further, you may want to consider Fairhope, AL.
I agree you don't need a car while in NOLA.
Staying in the Garden District is nice. The streetcars are a good way to get around.
If you want a classic NOLA restaurant, go to Pascale Manale's and try their BBQ shrimp -

Google AI says: "Daily highs typically range from the upper 50s to low 60s Fahrenheit, rarely falling below 50°F or exceeding 76°F." When I was there one New Year's Eve, it was in the low 70s F and sunny.
