Scenic day hike recommendations from Oaxaca City?
I've been reading about the Pueblos Mancomunados and they sound amazing—but I don’t think our trip is long enough to do an overnight there. It looks like it’s a 2–2.5 hour drive each way on winding/bumpy roads, which seems a bit much for a day trip.
Are there any areas closer to Oaxaca City that offer scenic day hikes?
Ideally:
* Within 2 hours of the city
* Gorgeous scenery
* Hikes we can do in 2–4 hours
* We’re open to public transport, hiring a guide/company, or even renting e-bikes if that’s an option
I’ve seen Coyote Aventuras recommended, but most of their trips also seem to start quite far from the city—maybe it just does take that long to get out into nature from Oaxaca?
To clarify: we’re already looking into other tours that include archaeological sites, mezcal, and craft villages. This post is specifically about hiking and natural beauty.
Thanks in advance for any tips!

My only experience is with this organization, several hikes with them on 2 month-long visits to Oaxaca. They were very good from my perspective, well planned & organized. You don't say when you'll be there which can matter, as it does with these, during the winter season.

Thanks, yes, I had a look at the website for Hoofing it in Oaxaca, looks like a great group but doesn't seem to run over the summer. Have been trying to use their past hikes as inspiration, but it's slow going with not knowing where various starting points are, etc, which is why I was hoping for some ideas.
