10 days San Francisco to Portland road trip Mid-September or early October
Planning a 10-14 day one-way drive from San Francisco to Portland with plans to visit N. California (and possibly Lassen Volcanic NP) and Oregon, including the Oregon coast and Crater Lake (possibly the Columbia River Gorge). Our trip will be before or after late September stay in the Bay Area. What should we consider when deciding to travel either in mid-September versus the first two weeks in October? Logistically, October would be a bit easier to plan.

Temps will still be in the 60s F in early October on the Oregon Coast but there will be more rainy days. Now, the average temp for Crater Lake in Sept. is 64 F but in October it drops to 53 F and has twice the number of rainy days. In other words, the weather is likely to be considerably better in late Sept.
