Just to clarify, when you say central location, are you thinking historic center? It would also be helpful to know what your interests are, so people can offer suggestions that are centrally located to where you'd be going and what you'd be doing. And if you'd be taking the metro to various attractions.

We spent about a week at LAS ALCOBAS in Polanco a few years ago. It's a small hotel with personalized service. Or it was when we were there. It has been taken over by Marriot so I don't know if things have changed but it still gets great reviews on TA.

There is no real center in DF except for perhaps the Centro historic but I would not choose that area to stay in. Polanco, home to LAS ALCOBAS, is an upscale district of designer shops and many embassies and residences for the wealthy. Not a lot of street life. But you can walk to the Park, to the Archeological Museum, and to the Reforma. And to Pujol if it has not moved.

It's a touch call on where to stay in that city..but I can assure you that the hotel is lovely and upscale. And small so not filled with conventioneers or group tourists. Great breakfast, served at table.

You will probably end up taking taxis a lot, wherever you stay....so I would just find a great hotel and go from there.

There's info on the area, and the hotel, here:

Hi Baldone, sorry for the long delay, we gravitate towards history, art, gardens, food experiences - not so much shopping. we will walk when we can, otherwise we will probably take taxis. all advise gratefully accepted. I am hoping for a hotel with a spa.

EKScrunchy, thank you for your fantastic advice. I loved your trip report - oh my the food of it all. A couple of questions:
re comida: we are usually late to get started in the mornings. If we were to go to a museum around 11, would restaurants take reservations for comida at 200 or 3:00? (in Europe we found many closed between 2 and 6 or so)

re Uber - others have suggested using uber for taxis as well. Is it the same app as in the States?

and do you know if Christina is still doing food tours? she sounds like an amazing guide.
some of the links in your trip report didn't work and I'm wondering if some of the restaurants have closed due to time and covid.

we are so excited for our trip.

Laura, yes, it's the same UBER app.

I think maybe you could book for a 2pm lunch, but I 3pm might be pushing it. They eat earlier in Mexico than in Spain, but I bet someone else can answer this more accurately.

Cristina no longer does tours. She was having difficulty walking when we took the tour with her, and when I saw her again a couple of years later, on a visit to Michoacan, she was noticeably worse as far as getting around and wanted to travel by car whenever possible. And even that was at least 6 years ago if not more.

Look into www.HUNGRYONION.ORG and see if a search turns up any good recommendations for food tours. I seem to remember a couple of posters who liked the tours they took very much.....
