Costa Rica: Rental car or private driver?

We are debating about which, if any, portions of our trip to rent a car or use a private driver.

We have a driver from San Jose/SJO to Arenal/La Fortuna. Looking for advice on the pros and cons of having a car or being without a car:
- In Arenal/La Fortuna
- From Arenal to another mountain/rainforest location to Puerto Viejo
- In Puerto Viejo
- In Manuel Antonio/Uvita.

We will have 4-5 days in each location and be going on tours.

Many thanks.

The Arenal area is very spread out, but we've gone there without a car and just used taxis. Any tour you do usually will pick you up and drop you back off at your hotel. The Manuel Antonio area is very compact, have not been to Uvita or Puerto Viejo. We usually use private drivers booked through our hotels to go from city to city.
