The rate is going to depend upon where you want to go - the distance involved. To give you an idea of costs, we paid $120 to go from SJO to Arenal; we hired drivers through our hotels.

Hi Murka - My wife, two kids, and I had great success with Alberto Amador during our July 2007 trip to CR. He was prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, and good-natured, and was also terrific with our kids.

His email is [email protected]

Sometimes it takes a few days for him to respond, depending on if he is on the road. If you want more info, let me know. We also contacted another client of Alberto's before we decided to hire him, and I could pass along that family's email to us as well if you'd like so you have another perspective on him.

Have a great trip.

We used Leonardo "Leo" Rodriquez two yrs. ago and since then, I have noticed rave reviews about his driving, his Enlish (he is a college grad) and his personality on this site as well as www.tripadvisor.com and www.frommers.com. Leo is a wealth of knowledge about his beloved county. His e-mail address is [email protected] and his phone is (USA 011) 506-378-0001. He will assist you even if you do not chose to use him as your driver. Pura Vida

Ditto for Leo. We used him for our trip in May and he was great. We told him what we most wanted to see and he was always on the look-out. We had seen very few monkeys in the Arenal region and on our way out of town Leo stops the car and yells "Monkeys!" We got to see about 20 monkeys as they crossed the road. Leo is also very prompt in answering emails and phone calls while some of the other references took over a week to reply.
