Sending money internationally

Hello, I hope someone can advise:
I see ads for XE ?
Is American Express still used ?
Are money orders international ?
(My local bank isn’t very helpful)

Specifically, this would be to a family member in South Korea.

I very much appreciate any current knowledge!
Thank you.

I usually do an international bank transfer which involves knowing the receiver’s bank info but find it easiest. PayPal is good too.

I forgot to mention Forbes recommended this site for comparisons:

https://www.monito.com/

Thank you for mentioning PayPal; I’ve only used it for small purchases.

I have no experience with Korea, have used primarily international bank to bank transfers initiated from my bank to a third party. Note that some investment accounts (Ameritrade, Fidelity) did not charge me for an outgoing international transfer. In one case the receiving party asked me to add in their own bank's fee.

Hi 29 FEB,

I use Wise (formerly Transferwise) every month to transfer money from my US bank to my German bank. Have used it to send money to other people in the US and in Germany as well.

I used XEtrade and Transferwise when I had to transfer money to Europe. Transferwise was the cheapest, but the transfer could take as long as 5 working days.

You better ask the family member in S. Korea how s/he can get the money.

I know that sending money to Belarus we can only use Western Union.

Not sure about sending to Korea, but I have used PayPal and Zelle (via my bank), to transfer money within the USA.

I have been sending money to a friend in Burma - Western Union is the only option to Burma.

I use Transferwise and PayPal for transferring money and I find both convenient but Transferwise is cheap but it takes time.

Our bank does not charge us to wire money abroad so we do it that way. We have had some situations when booking tours in cities where they wanted us to use PayPal.
