Pensacola Beach: AFB jet noise?

This may be a dumb question, but do jets taking off and landing from the Air Force Base make Pensacola Beach a noisy place?

We are looking for a nice quiet beach on the Panhandle and Pensacola Beach seems to have everything we're looking for -- we're just concerned about jet noise.

THANKS!

The base is not that close to the beach so I don't believe noise will be a problem. Pensacola is one of the nicest beaches in the USA. Also try Ft. walton, Destin and Panama City for nice beaches.

We spent a six weeks in Desin this past fall/winter. There were numerous planes every day that flew low over the beach. Rather than be an annoyance I enjoyed them tremendously. They were a beautiful sight to see. At one point there were very few people on the beach and 2 jets flew over and when they were over us they turned on their sides as if saying "hi there!" I loved it.

"Sir, that's the sound of freedom you're hearing!" That's what we used to tell the people that called to complain about jet noise when I was a Navy air traffic controller stationed at Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico. They actually had a reason to complain too, as most of the housing was right in the flight path. Pensacola Beach isn't located on the downwind or upwind legs, but the jets do exercise over the beach areas at times.

So I take it the jets are actually more of an ATtraction rather than a DEtraction!

Thanks for the great opinions!

CF: I couldn't agree more - we were at Destin three weeks after September 11th and LOVED when they would fly over the beach! We'd whip out the binoculars for a better look.
LD - keep an eye out for sharks in those waters - a local told us "do NOT swim any later than 3:30 P.M."

Like the posts said the beach is not on NAS flight path. Most of the planes that are flying over the beach are training jets from Hurlbert field. They are not annoying at all. Maybe if you are lucky the Blue Angels will fly by the Beach on the way home from a show. That is a sight that all in America should see.
